Travel Tips and Tricks

CULTURE
It is always best to be familiar and understand a countries culture. Bali is mainly Hindu; therefore, respect their traditions. Balinese people are really warm and welcoming. Please be mindful of their daily offerings which will be placed either in altars or the ground, mind your step. Most temples have dress codes, and some require everyone to wear a Sarong.

CURRENCY
In Indonesia the currency is the Rupiah and its code is the IDR. They use a lot of zeros! Most places will accept major credit cards, but it is always best to have cash in hand. Make sure to stop at a Money Exchange place and have plenty of money with you for smaller shops and street vendors. These can be found all over.
At the moment 1 USD = 15,077.530733 IDR

Food
Food in Bali was delicious! They have several options to choose from. Most Hindu people do not eat beef, the most common will be chicken and pork. They have plenty of exotic fruits to choose from. Please enjoy their breakfast as it was one of my favorite! Some of our favorite meals:
Nasi Campur= Chicken Rice
Nasi Goreng= Stir fried rice, meats and vegetables, with a fried egg.
Babi Guling= Roasted pig, mixed vegetables, served with white rice

WEATHER
Bali is Tropical! Most days will be hot and humid. If it rains, most hotels have spare umbrellas for guest to use. Dress proper and be respectful of the culture.
TRANSPORTATION
Let me start by saying that Bali traffic is horrible. Most Balinese citizens and tourist use motorbikes. Which then makes it harder for regular vehicles to move around. Roads are small and get congested quickly. When taking tours and driving around the island give yourself enough time. As a 10-mile destination could take up to an hour or more due to traffic.
Many hotels include airport shuttles for an additional charge. There are taxi and drivers all over to take you around. There is also a company called Gojek, which similar to Uber you can request a ride. We recommend our drivers:
*Ngurah AKA Juice +62 812-362-6622
*I Made Sudita +62 812-365-7908
Please feel free to reach out through WhatsApp and let them know we sent you!
LODGING
There are plenty of hotel options in Bali. Lodging will depend on the type of scenery your looking for. We went to Canggu, Ubud, and Seminyak. I completely recommend all three locations. These were our hotels:
Legong Keraton Beach Hotel in Canguu
The Sender Pool Suite in Ubud
Grand Balisani Suites in Seminyak

TOURS
We love exploring ourselves and do not like to be in any type of schedule or ittinerary. Once in a while we do enjoy taking tours and we either book through our hotel or use TripAdvisor. For Bali, we purchased through TripAdvisor. We booked a tour for Ubud which included the Monkey forest, Tegalalang rice fields, Water Temple and a waterfall. Our tour guide was amazing and even recommended a place for lunch. Please visit TripAdvisor for more information.
*For those of you interested in the famous Bali swing, they can be found all over. We went to “Happy Swing Bali” in Ubud. The staff was wonderful and for just $20 per person we got a whole photo shoot in a swing and much more.

WHAT TO PACK?
Make sure to pack light. We recommend backpacks and small suitcases. Like mentioned previously, it can be hot so bring summer dresses, shorts, t-shirts, bathing suites (for beach and hotel pools only) and comfortable shoes and or sandals. For those that like to have their hair straight and make up, please don’t waste time bringing makeup or attempt to dry your hair as the humidity wont help. If anything, bring some hair frizz control and proper face sunscreen moisturizers.
Please note that mosquitoes are everywhere. We recommend to have mosquito and bug repellent products. Keep in mind that liquids need to be less than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less.
PHONE SERVICE
Phone service is optional. Although nowadays it can be complicated trying to manage with no service. Most hotels and restaurants have Wifi. We recommend getting a travel sim card in order to get data and use apps like WhatsApp and Google maps for a much better experience.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel insurance is optional. We recommend it, because anything can happen while traveling abroad. Some insurance agencies will cover flights, hotels, medical expenses, cancellations, and many other mishaps.
