Travel Tips and Tricks

Culture
Get familiar with a countries culture before visiting. Singapore is composed by several ethnic groups. You will see people from all over Asia, and other part of the world. It is a major melting pot, which is what makes Singapore a beautiful country to visit. Ensure you do read about their laws. Singapore is one of the cleanest countries we’ve ever visited. For example, you can get fine for improper disposal of gum. Keep this in mind!
Currency

In Singapore the currency is the Singapore Dollar and its code is SGD. Most places accept credit cards, we barely used cash while in here. Unless your eating at a hawker restaurant or street vendors, then, it is always good to have cash.
At the moment 1 USD = 1.33 SGD
FOOD

Singapore food culture is incredible! Let me tell you, that one of the main reasons we wanted to visit was for the food. The street food is amazing. There are plenty of Michelin hawker restaurants, others are even recognized and recommended by them. They were excellent, our favorite was Hawker Chan, which was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Make sure you eat some chicken and rice, laksa, and satay which were some of our favorite dishes.
Weather
We visited Singapore during the month of June and it was hot. The weather is very humid and it rain a lot during our stay. Please ensure you are familiar with the weather before visiting. This can help you decide the type of attire you will need to make your trip more enjoyable.
Transportation
Singapore is a really advanced country. The transportation here is great. They have a reliable subway system. You can also get around with Taxis or Grab (Similar to Uber), even rent bikes or scooters. For those of you staying at hotels, do not forget to ask them if they provide airport shuttles.
Lodging
There are several types of lodging options in Singapore. It all depends on the type of budget you have. There are options for everyone. During our stay, our hotel was The Park Regis Singapore. Great location, and the staff was phenomenal.

Tours
There is a lot to see in Singapore. We had a great time and want to go back because we were not able to explore everything this country has to offer. We booked tours through TripAdvisor, but mainly asked the front desk of the hotel of places we could walk ourselves too. Now, some of the things we were able to do and enjoy are as follow:
Marina Bay Sands
Chinatown
Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum
Merlion Park
Waterfront Promenade
National Museum of Singapore
Clarke Quay
The Helix Bridge
Arab Street
Singapore River
Little India
Sultan Mosque
We visited these and many more. Totally recommend you to visit.

What to Pack?
Packing smart is crucial, and before you start to pack please check the average temperatures for Singapore during your trip. While we visited, it was hot, humid, and rainy. Therefore, we brought comfortable and loose clothing. Loose clothes will help in humid climates. You will be doing a lot of walking, bring comfy shoes as well. You can also bring an umbrella or purchase one upon arrival. Keep in mind that when visiting churches or temples there is a dress code. Have modest clothe and respect their culture.

Phone Service
Some places in Singapore did not offer WIFI. Therefore, it was nice having a SIM card which allowed us to navigate the city much better.
Travel Insurance
We flew from Florida to Singapore. It was a fairly expensive trip, therefore we wanted to ensure our tip was ensured in case something happened. This is completely optional, but we recommend everyone purchasing travel insurance when you’re investing so much on a trip. We use the following:
